At First Call Restoration, we recently completed a mold and water restoration project for a residential homeowner. The job involved tackling both water mitigation and mold remediation in Highland, NY. A leaking sink in the unit above caused significant water damage to a closet and bathroom. We quickly handled a leak and mold damage. Our team acted fast to assess the situation and put a plan in place to restore the affected areas.
When we arrived at the property, we began with a thorough inspection. The bathroom’s drywall behind the vanity was visibly wet, and the leak had caused damage to the closet as well. Using a moisture meter, we identified elevated moisture levels in the closet’s drywall, baseboards, and wood sill plate, as well as parts of the bathroom’s tile flooring and insulation. Mold growth was present inside the vanity cabinet due to prolonged exposure to moisture.
After identifying the water and mold damage in the bathroom and closet, our team at First Call Restoration quickly took action to prevent further damage. We followed a detailed water mitigation process:
Our first priority was to stop any further damage by beginning the water mitigation process. We placed air movers and dehumidifiers in the bathroom and closet to reduce moisture levels and start the drying process immediately.
Next, we removed the damaged insulation from both the bathroom and closet. This allowed for more efficient drying and helped prevent further mold growth in the walls.
We then removed the wet drywall behind the bathroom vanity, which had been heavily affected by the water leak. Additionally, we removed the damaged tiles on the bathroom floor that had also absorbed moisture.
The water had also damaged the baseboards and part of the wood sill plate in the closet. We carefully removed these saturated materials to prevent further structural damage and mold growth.
After the water mitigation was complete, we began the mold remediation process:
Throughout the process, we continuously monitored the drying progress using moisture meters to make sure all areas were drying out properly. Once we confirmed that the moisture levels were back to normal, we removed the equipment and prepared the area for final restoration work.
By the end of the project, the homeowner’s bathroom and closet were free from water damage and mold. We were able to provide a safe, dry living environment once again, and the homeowner was extremely satisfied with the results. At First Call Restoration, we take pride in providing fast, reliable water and mold damage restoration services to help our clients get back to normal as quickly as possible.
